One Ugly Cowboy
One Ugly Cowboy (OUC) is a Toronto-based country/rock band led by the dynamic vocalist ‘Hurricane Jane’ Sowerby. Blending gritty country with high-energy rock, OUC delivers heartfelt, humorous, and original tunes that captivate audiences.
Their Story
Formed by Jane Sowerby and guitarist Richard Zwic, OUC combines decades of musical expertise. Jane, an award-winning actress with over 100 film/TV credits, has fronted bands like a Janis Joplin tribute and worked with industry legends in Los Angeles. Richard, a seasoned producer and songwriter, has collaborated with JUNO winners and opened for icons like Bryan Adams and Steppenwolf. Joined by bassist Rick Ottenbrite and drummer Mike Mann in 2015, OUC was born in a home studio when Jane and Richard decided to bring their songs to life.
Music & Achievements
OUC’s debut EP Get Yer Ugly On (2015) kicked off their journey, followed by their 2020 album Ride with the Wind, which produced six Top 5 singles on the Canadian Indie Country Countdown Chart, three hitting #1. Their 2022 singles I Love Whatcha Do and a cover of Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire both reached #1, with Ring of Fire named the Country Music Association of Ontario’s ‘Video Pick of the Month’ (Oct 2022). In 2023, I’m Owning My Crazy also hit #1, setting a record for the most #1 singles by an artist on the CICC chart.
Live Performances
Known for their electrifying live shows, OUC has performed at major festivals like Havelock Country Jamboree, Boothill Country Jamboree, and the Canadian National Exhibition (four years running). They’ve shared stages with artists like Lee Brice, Honeymoon Suite, and The Washboard Union, delivering a mix of original songs and reimagined classics with their signature ‘ugly cowboy spin.’
