The members include:
Bruce Gorrie – Saxophone & Flute
Bruce is a dynamic saxophonist and flautist who has shared the stage with some of the most respected names in jazz, including Boss Brass’s Eugene Amaro and Woody Herman’s Pat LaBarbera. A former Juno Awards judge, Bruce has been invited to perform for dignitaries and major celebrities — including the Prime Minister of Canada. His career has taken him across Europe and North America, playing renowned festivals such as Festijazz Rimouski and Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival. His expressive tone and soulful phrasing make him a cornerstone of the Just Us sound.
Duncan Hopkins – Upright & Electric Bass
Duncan is a world-class bassist recognized internationally for his artistry and precision. He has performed and recorded with jazz icons like Diana Krall, Boss Brass, and Robert Farnon, and has graced legendary venues including Carnegie Hall. With over 40 album credits and countless appearances on CBC, BBC, and NPR, Duncan brings a depth of musical experience that anchors the band’s groove and sophistication.
Gord Paton – Drums
A Juno Award nominee and seasoned performer, Gord has served as a house drummer for CBC and CTV, contributing to numerous recordings and film soundtracks. His technical mastery, rhythmic creativity, and unwavering dedication to musical excellence have made him a sought-after collaborator in the Canadian jazz scene. Beyond performance, Gord’s passion for sound engineering and production enhances every Just Us performance with clarity and energy.
Dean MacDonald – Drums
Dean is an accomplished drummer celebrated for his versatility and dynamic presence. He has performed with Canadian jazz greats including Dave Young of the Oscar Peterson Trio and Don Thompson, and spent years touring with pianist John Arpin. A familiar face in the Toronto jazz circuit, Dean’s intuitive rhythm and refined style make him a perfect fit for the Just Us Jazz Band’s diverse repertoire.
John Rickey – Piano & Keyboards
John is an accomplished composer, arranger, and pianist whose music education includes studies with noted mentors Gord Delamont, Johnny Burt, and Pat Riccio. Holding an ARCT in Piano from the University of Toronto and a B.Ed. Specialist in Music, John has produced over 400 professional recordings, including TV commercials and film scores. His broad musical knowledge and artistic sensitivity bring sophistication and polish to every Just Us performance.
